Stay Safe
The sea is a great place for fun - Some simple tip to avoid accidents
National Coastwatch have joined with RNLI to raise safety awareness and have produced a number of useful leaflets which we will be handing out to vistors this year, showing people how to Stay Safe:
- on the beach and while swimming
- while boarding and paddleboarding
- walking on coast paths and cliffs
- on jetskis and small powered craft
- in dinghies and small yachts
If you don't see us around, pop in to the Lookout to collect the leaflets you want or click and print the images below
There is much more comprehensive advice on the Safety pages of the RNLI website
Water Quality
Unfortunately water quality is another factor that has to be considered. Teignmouth's water quality is usually excellent but sewage discharges do occur even in summer, generally after rain and the advice is to Stay Safe by checking the Surfers Against Sewage map before entering the water
The map is also available in the Safer Seas App which is available for both Android and iPhone
South West Water's BeachWise website explains what happens when it rains heavily and how they partner with Surfers Against Sewage to provide updates for the Safer Seas maps.
Teignmouth Town Beach Boat Access Lane
Teignbridge District Council, Byelaws allow watercraft- including jet skis- to access Teignmouth Town beach via an access lane situated below the NCI lookout on the Eastcliff. This access lane is marked by a v shaped lane of yellow marker buoys. Swimming in the access lane can be dangerous ,and should be avoided. A further access lane, similarly marked ,is situated on Ness Beach. BEACH USERS, PLEASE STAY SAFE AND KEEP CLEAR OF THE ACCESS LANES !
Teignmouth RNLI
